I want to be buried, not cremated. There is a 'green cemetery' in Lismore where person can be buried in natural bushland with no marker, the burial site recorded and traceable by GPS. That's what I want; minimal impact on the environment, minimal fuss. To be one with the Earth, to be home in bushland, where I've always felt most at peace.
Since I'd heard of cardboard coffins years ago I thought that was the way to go, I found recently that they are just as expensive as wooden coffins. That was surprising. I guess the funeral industry isn't ready to let people die cheaply. It used to be law that you had to be buried in a coffin; now, in some places, you can be buried in a shroud. That would have to be cheaper wouldn't it? I don't want to be a burden at a time when loved ones are already burdened by grief and heartache.
"And when I die and when I'm gone
There'll be one child born in this world to carry on, carry on..."
This song should be played; "And When I Die" by Blood Sweat and Tears
